So I will be doing my second blog post about Pravana Vivids later in the week. I’m planning on having my hair dyed this Thursday so I can get the blog post up soon. I am gearing more towards a true red rather than a purple/violet based this time, but I still always add a bit of a violet tone just because I do not like “fire truck” red tones. I will, as usual, be lightening my roots with Loreal’s HiColor in Magenta as well. So just an update to look out for soon since I have been receiving so many questions about hair lately.
(wow taken with my camera phone… not bad quality! haha)

Also, how exciting is this! I am also moving from 1/3 to 2/3 in my Esthetician course tomorrow! I’m in the middle now! Woo!!! ![]()

where could i purchase this?
I am unsure what area you live in, but in Southern Cali we have a store called Salon Centric. They only sell to licensed cosmetologists, estheticians, and nail professionals. Other than that, I have no idea where to purchase them because, I as well, searched everywhere I could get them. Other than that you can probably purchase them online
Hey i know you have tryed many different red tones on your hair. i was wondering what colors did you mix to get the red hair colour where you were wearing you pretty red heals and all black clothes?? its one of your photoshoots.. i wold really love love to know… right nows im using Loreal Hicolor hilights In MAGENTA mixed with Minica Panic VAMPIRE RED… but now i want a different toned red….. by the way… WHERE CAN YOU BUY PRAVANA HAIR DYE AT???
Hello!
The photo shoot one was actually a faded color! Lol! It was a mixture of pravana’s wild orchid and magenta. It was really dark when I first dyed my hair but it lightened up and actually faded to this weird orange color which you see in the photo. However, I have recently dyed my hair with pravana’s red and magenta mixed and must say I used enough dye this time to where my color is extremely vibrant and lovely. I will be posting a blog entry about it hopefully by tomorrow to explain and show the color, so stay tuned!
I always use Loreal Hicolor in magenta to lift my roots. I have used Manic Panic’s vampire red but it is too dark for my personal taste, I usually go for the pillarbox red mixed with purple haze.
Depends on your area, I am unsure. They do not sell it at Sally’s. I get mine at a professionals only store called Salon Centric, you need a license in order to shop there. Other than that, I would guess their website or ebay or something! I had a difficult time finding it as well but fortunately got lucky in finding a store! Hope that helps. x
Hi!
First, I would like to say that I enjoy reading your blogs! Your red hair looks amazing especially for goth night. I have a question. I recently went from darkest brown (looked kind of black) with a semi-permanent glaze that had a tint of red that you would only notice in the sun. I decided I wanted to go a lighter red. My salon bleached my hair and made it red but it is still a deep reddish plummish color. I do like it, but I am absolutely in love with Ariana Grande’s hair color. If you search her on google, she will have a variety of different reds. But the one i absolutely love is the color closest to red velvet. Do you have any suggestions on how to achieve that? Or should i just go to the salon again? Just so you have some kind of background, my hair falls right on top of my backside, I have a olive skin tone, really thick eyebrows… almost think a lighter version of jasmine from aladdin lol. and my eyebrows are black as well! i went to mac and they gave me a color gel but i am wondering if you have any suggestions on how to lighten them just a hint without dyeing them. and what color might look right? i am really liking the color on your eyebrows btw!
Thanks love!
Hello! That was such a sweet comment, I appreciate it a lot!
Just to let you know, the advice I give is based on my own experience and my own basic/general knowledge, I am not a cosmetologist!
Anyway, I am familiar with the tinting and then you bleaching your hair yet still having it dark. I have gone through that all. My question is, is your hair freshly dyed? My hair is usually super dark within the first week of dyeing it, the more I wash, the brighter and vibrant my color gets. It kind of has to “wash away” first until you see the true color (I hope that makes sense). Also, I do not personally like salon brand dyes. I have tried Redken, Paul Mitchel, Wella, etc etc etc…. they are never as intense as I want them to be!
I am familiar with her through my blog readers! I never knew who she was until I started getting asked about her ( I may actually do a blog post on this ). Her hair color really looks like a Pravana type of dye to me. You may want to look into these. It looks like the color “red” by their Vivid’s line. However, this is a stain and it is difficult to get rid of it if you decide to change your mind on the color. But the plus is that they stay SUPER vibrant and intense for so long! I would talk to your stylist and give it a go.
I would recommend the same thing MAC did, their brow gel. That’s pretty much the way to lighten without dyeing them yet having them look more natural because if you just use a lighter eyebrow pencil it will look wrong. My eyebrows are pretty much black too! … I really suggest sticking with the brow gel!
Hope that helps!
hey sara! I have the exact same issue you do. Dark thick hair and i’ve been wanting to dye my hair the beautiful red you have now. My question is do you mix the Loreal HiColor with developer? My hair is completely dark brown right now and i was wondering if i had to do it all over my hair or bleach my whole entire head! Because i know you say you use developer on your roots much more than anything.
(I am not a cosmetologist) Yes, only the L’oreal product needs the developer. If you’re all dark brown, then I would say to use the L’oreal all over your hair, but don’t do this more than once! (unless your hair can handle another round of it if it isn’t the desired intensity you want it to be) then just use it to touch up your roots!
thank you so much! I can’t wait to see how it comes out!!!
