My hair done today by the amazing Danielle Ullman (Allen Edwards salon in Woodland Hills). I got my hair color refreshed… finally. A light trim and a cut for my bangs… I feel like a woman again! She used Pravana in Magenta on me. Totally looks red on my hair, which is perfect because they were actually out of the red and I was a bit sad! But I have so much red pigment in my hair that it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t show through much haha.

oh boy! have you tried searching for it through amazon? My stylist who last did it was able to get me with two tubes, if I am dyeing it on my own it takes me 3 tubes and my hair gets drenched! But I would stick with 4… better playing it safe! Keep it in longer so you get the most out of the product and so it lasts
Can you please list steps on how you can achieve this color at home? In previous post, you said you used Loreal Hicolor to do your roots, was that mixed with Magenta or the developer on its own? Thanks!

Did your stylist touch up your roots at all? If so did she bleach the roots or pre-lighten the roots using a color like you mentioned doing in your ‘how I dye my hair red’ YouTube video? I know you mentioned not using ‘Hi-Color’ all over (don’t worry I did that too until I got scolded in cosmetology school for doing that lol) so I was just curious how she did it. I’m so excited to try the Vivids line I’ve heard amazing things about it! Also LOVE your blog, you’re a girl after my own heart <3!!

I just wanted to drop you a message to say a massive thank you!
I have alway used manic panic, special effects etc – but the lady who stocks the colours I use has been out of stock for ages.
So, the last few times I dyed my hair I used box red dyes from the chemists, and it has left my hair a bit frazzled and gingery red due to the chemicals/peroxide etc. (I like ginger, but this isn’t what I was trying to achieve!) The only things that have saved my hair condition are these products: http://www.redken.com/products/haircare/extreme
Anyway, I stumbled across your fab blog and saw your tips about using Pravana vivids and felt uber excited to try some. It turned out I had to order the red and magenta from Poland, as nowhere seems to stock it here in the UK.
Today I mixed red and magenta until I was happy with the shade and applied with a tint brush. I put my hair in a shower cap and applied a little heat with the hairdryer now and then keeping my hair wrapped in a towel.
Almost two hours later, my hair feels incredibly soft, smells divine and I have the nicest red colour I can remember!
– This has cheered me up no end, and I still have loads of dye left as my hair is long bob length.

Rosie at Frenchy’s Beauty Salon in Burbank is my hair “artist”… I too do a dep red,, with black “highlights” and have been getting the Pravana special effects done the last few months (violet and blue) First time blue washed out in like 3 weeks, second time did amazing for 7 weeks. Now I have a huge chunk of blue under my ponytail, and it is really fading fast (2 weeks in) yet the violet and blue on my sides is looking fab as ever… can i mix Manic and Pravana ? Like can I grab a tube of Manic (easily accesible) and redo the blu withjout messing it up for my next hair appointment which is in 5 weeks? (My red still going strong!

Oooo, I practically live in Burbank with how often I am out there but I haven’t heard of that salon! I don’t think I would mix Manic Panic with Pravana because MP is a semi-permanent and Pravana is a direct dye. I don’t see what harm could happen if you did, I just probably wouldn’t and I like Pravana far too much to bother with MP anymore. HOWEVER, if it’s inbetween dyes and just to freshen up before your next dye appointment, MP alone would work
i just dyed my hair using pravana and it is still running and staining my hands. is there something i can do to stop this?

Pravana Vivids is not damaging
I recently had blue purple and magenta put in the front of my hair after it was prelightened but the magenta is fading rather quickly while the blue and purple look amazing is there something I could mix with it or apply after to hold the magenta in longer?
I don’t think so, not with Pravana as far as I know, but you could try depositing the dye into a fresh mix with your conditioner to help refresh the color
