A while back, I reached out to all of you asking that you submit photos of your red hair that you have achieved through my blog’s advice. I was curious to see the outcomes of the colors with the help of my tutorials and many hair articles I have written here on my site. I was excited to see how many of you submitted your photos! I wanted to dedicate a collage using all of the submitted photos to show off their beautiful red locks to all my readers and to inspire those who seek the courage to get these outstanding vibrant red colors.
Some have followed my actual tutorials using each product I use to achieve my own color and others have taken bits and pieces to add to what they already personally do. The brands include Pravana, Manic Panic, and L’oreal HiColor.
Thank you all for your submissions!!!

Love it, thanks again for the inspiration!
Just a quick question for you, do the Pravana Vivids before application look like the colors they end up being on the hair? I mean, as far as mixing to make new colors, is it easy to tell what you’re doing or do the colors change at all during the dyeing process?
If your hair is bleached white, then yes they will look like the colors you mix. But if your hair is darker or whatever color, it can have a bit of a difference on it. But they do show up generally what they look like in the bowl!
saw these today on the Sally website, they’re new as of May 1, and thought I’d share here:

I have used this on a couple “dip dye” projects I’ve done…first, my friends brown hair, which of course I had to bleach the ends of first…I left it on her hair for the 25-30 minutes that it recommended and the color only lasted 2-3 days….horrible. The second time I used it on myself, my hair was a red and the ends were lighter for some reason so I figured this would be cool to cover it until I did the red again…and left it on about 45 minutes, that seemed to last about a week and a half. Lastly, I did it on already blonde hair, light/dirty blonde, and left it on for just over an hour…the color has lasted for a few weeks now…it has faded, but definitely worked better leaving it on longer than suggested!…if you want VIBRANT color that will LAST…I’d suggest leaving it on for a few hours, it won’t harm your hair.
Love your red hair color, so I just want to know if I mix one box of magenta and two boxes of red will I get that color?
Depends on what color you are applying it over
what level would you say u lifted your hair to before depositing the color?
My stylist does my hair for my so I don’t know. She uses a 30 vol though
My hair is currently red. I used the loreal hilift in hot red then I used manic panic vampire red. Its been a few weeks and as you know its fading to the point where I need to do it again. I came across your website and am in love with how bright your hair is! I want to try the vivids in red & magenta just curious if it will brighten up my hair putting over my current color (cherry redish) or should I try lifting my current color?
Hi I came across your comment and I was wondering if you have pics. I have also been using manic panic’s vampire red all over my hair and I need to touch up my roots because they are a lot darker than the rest of my hair which doesnt look bad but I would like it all to be one color. And I’m just wondering what color to use. I thought of using loreal hi color in magenta but I dont know what color it will make my hair or if I should use a different color. Please respond it would be so helpful! Thanks!
If you’re using vampire red, I would say to use red by L’oreal. I believe I just responded to your other comment as well.
hey i am a big fan—> plus i was a hairdresser for 5 years so i do know a good bit about colour, the only thing is we dont have the hicolor in ireland, so i bought some on amazon but there are no instructions on the packet, my roots are about 2 inches of a 5 base (med-dark brown) then my lengths and ends are a light/gingery brown—> so i was just thinking of popping it on all over, i remember reading somewhere that you have to put it on roots last but i think that may be if the ends are darker…. would it be ok to pop it on all over?? i understand that you are not a hairdresser but i would appreciate the help as you have been using it so long
plus i have googled it and cant find proper instructions!!! thanks so much x
Hello! Thank you, and I am glad you are aware I am not a professional at all. In my experience, I apply the hicolor on darker areas first because I want them to lighten up the most and have that extra amount of time before touching up my roots and such, so in my opinion, I would definitely do it on darker areas first.
I used hicolor on my med/dark brown dyed hair…my brown roots came out way brighter red than the rest of my hair, I did it again and did my roots last and it came out so much better. But if the rest of your hair was lighter than your roots you’d probably want to do it all at once. I LOVE the hicolor dye! Oh, plus..if you wrap your hair in plastic wrap or something it’ll help make the color more vibrant, at least that was the case for me…next time I do it I’m probably going to try wrapping it and using the blow dryer for heat to see what that does for me.
Good luck!
Have u heard/used color oops? Should I lift the color I have at the moment then follow what u did to your hair? I have black in my hair and got it 8 months ago so it’s not as black it looks dark brown! I want to dye my hair red please help me !!! Thanks
I’m not a hair dresser, so don’t think I’m a professional on this!!…but in my experience with black, dark brown, blonde, red… (lol) I’d probably go to a Sally’s and get a hi-lift permanent dye and use a 30-40 volume developer with it. I HATE bleaching my hair, so this is how I personally get around it. I’d also wrap your hair with a plastic wrap or tin foil…and possibly heat it with your blow dryer. I’ve never used the color oops, but I don’t think it’s meant for dye that’s 8 months old, I believe it’s for like immediately after you dye it pretty much. Either way, good luck!
