So many skin care companies are always directed towards women, but what about men who care about the health and appearance of their skin? Which man would want to buy a bottle of cleanser decorated in pink floral print that would only truly appeal to a woman’s taste?
As many of you may know, I have graduated from skin care school and during my time there we actually specifically studied an area directed towards male clients. The main key points were that men did not want to be overwhelmed with ten different skin care products to use daily and prefer a super simple and easy skin care regimen. It also targeted packaging and how many males were embarrassed about skin care products in fear it would ruin their “masculinity.” Well, truth is, whether you are female or male, skin care is equally as crucial with each gender. Many males tend to skip out on important products such as sunscreen, which could still put them at serious risk for skin cancer. What I found is that Shield for Men targets all these concerns for males.
They have two very simple products:
Wash + Protect – This soothing daily facial cleanser is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and essential oils. This cleansing formula removes pore-clogging oil, dirt and impurities preventing acne breakouts, blemishes and ingrown hairs.
Moisturize + Shield – A daily facial moisturizer with a dual purpose: to moisturize & shield. Designed to help the skin feel nourished with its powerful antioxidants and organic ingredients. Packed with UVA/UVB sun protection.
I was approached by the company Shield for Men and was instantly interested because I love opening up to new skin care products (especially since I am in the industry, why not try them all, right?). I will be dealing with future male clients and would love to be able to recommend them to a product that not only works for their skin but will fit their taste for packaging.
For further feedback, I have given the products to my brother to try for himself. I am planning on having him try it for a few weeks before announcing his feedback on the product. However, I will admit that I tried this stuff on myself personally to get my own feel for it! I trusted to use it on my extremely sensitive skin because the products are all natural. The site notes that their products contain, “no harmful preservatives, parabens, synthetic fragances and chemicals,” and that their “products are completely hand made to order and use only all natural and organic ingredients.”
From my experience, it has a moderate tea tree scent. This is because it actually contains tea tree oil which is known to kill bacteria and fungus, and reduce allergic skin reactions. It also aids in helping with acne, burns, rashes, and so much more. After my use with the product, it did what it was meant to do and I did not experience any burning or uncomfortable sensations (since I have very sensitive skin!).
The active ingredients in the Wash + Protect are vitamin E, pro-vitamin B, tea tree oil, green tea extract, ylang ylang essential oil, Patchoull essential oil, Rosewood essential oil, and Cedarwood essential oil.
The active ingredients in the Moisturize + Shield are similar except that it contains vitamin A instead of B.
Overall, this product is still extremely new to my brother and I, but I am impressed not only with the packaging but the great ingredients packed into these products. I know that with extended use these active ingredients can really be beneficial to the skin.
