If you follow my Facebook page you may know that I recently took an eyebrow shaping class. It was mainly a class based on us estheticians and our clients, but we did learn a few fun facts and tips when it came to how the eyebrows work.

A few things to be aware of when you are trying to change or create your eyebrow shape is:

• Your bone structure
• How much hair you have
• Whether or not the hair can grow back?
• Are you willing to take the effort into growing them back?

When you have considered all of these and you have a good amount of hair to deal with, you can then decide which hair removal method to use in order to shape your brows. A tip would be to take off hair little by little and take a step back to really see where you are going with it.

Tips for Tweezers:

• Slanted tweezers are safer and easier
• Some tweezers have more tension than others, however it is a personal choice
• Pointed tweezers are great for ingrown hairs

Tips when Waxing:

• Use proper lighting!
• Wax in small sections to have control over the wax so you don’t take off too much hair at once

Tips for Trimming Eyebrows:

• Use curved stainless steel scissors with round tips
• Sometimes trimming alone can improve the brow drastically
• Always be sure to be sitting up when trimming or getting your eyebrows trimmed
• When starting out, do not cut too low to prevent over-trimming. You can build it up

If you have hairs growing in all different directions opposed to their natural growth, you can pull the hair out in the direction you want it to go (with force) to retrain your hair to grow out in that direction.

A tip for those trying to grow their eyebrows out would be to use something like a lash enhancer or to run castor oil through your brows daily.

If you feel incapable to achieve the eyebrow shape you wish to have, be sure to visit a trusted esthetician to help you through the process of creating a beautiful natural brow.

For those who need the help of makeup, here is a quick picture tutorial on how I fill my eyebrows in. This is, of course, personal preference since I like mine more dramatic than others may. However, you can still use the same steps but run the shadow lightly through your brows for a more natural look and use a clean mascara wand to brush the product through to blend it in even further.

1. Line 2. Blend upward into brow and blend in 3. Clean up with concealer.
I am using MAC Folie eyeshadow with a wet angled brush.

Some have followed my actual tutorials using each product I use to achieve my own color and others have taken bits and pieces to add to what they already personally do. The brands include Pravana, Manic Panic, and L’oreal HiColor.

For whatever reason, when it comes to mascara, I would never think “NYX”. I usually lean towards the brand for their well known jumbo pencils and lip liners. However, I decided to pick up a mascara many months ago and it disappeared with the rest of my makeup in storage for a bit until I found it again. I finally decided to try it and was quite impressed…

The first thing I noticed when I opened the tube was the brush. I absolutely love applying it to my lashes with this type of “hour glass” shape (I usually use Voluminous by L’oreal which is just a standard brush) and it makes it so easy to get to the root of the lash.

The overall application is also what I am impressed with. One coat does the job for me with this mascara, however, the thickness can be built if needed with another coat or two. It does not clump up all that much for me unless I’m in a hurry and don’t get to brush it out (it’s a little clumped in the photo). If you need to avoid clumping mascara, a tip would be to make sure to apply any extra coats while your mascara is still wet and to take a clean mascara wand to brush through (again, while still wet) to remove the excess product.

Would I buy this product again? Most likely. I’m not much of a mascara person in general, I tend to mainly purchase lipsticks, but I think this has definitely entered my mental list of main NYX products to buy. Mascara is the most personal makeup product in my opinion, each brand will work differently for others. For myself, the Doll Eye product does do a good job for daily wear and worth some use since it will be thrown out in about a month anyway!

I did this tutorial a while back because many of you asked how I fill in my eyebrows to get a thick and defined shape. When I cannot afford to splurge on my favorite brow pencil (MAC in Spiked) I go for the next best thing. Maybelline’s Define a Brow is a very affordable alternative and has very similar packaging. It is a pencil that does not need to be sharpened (I waste so much product sharpening) but instead, it is twisted up.
Compare MAC (left) about $15 to Maybelline (right) about $6:
